SPORTS CHIROPRACTIC & REHABILITATION IN TOWNSVILLE

Assessment and rehabilitation for lifters, athletes and active people who want a training-aware plan.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Dr Trevor Smyth (Chiropractor) has practised continuously since 2013. He completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement) in 2007, a Bachelor of Health Science (Chiropractic) in 2009 and a Master of Clinical Science (Chiropractic) in 2012 at RMIT University. His additional professional development has included movement assessment, rehabilitation programming, needling, manual-therapy and strength-training education.

A TRAINING-AWARE CLINICAL APPROACH

Dr Trevor Smyth (Chiropractor) has particular experience working with lifting-related presentations involving squat, bench press and deadlift training. Assessment may include reviewing your training program and recent lifting videos to understand the demands of your sport.

Stopping all training is not automatically the answer. Where clinically appropriate, assessment can help identify activity you currently tolerate and possible modifications to volume, intensity or exercise selection while rehabilitation progresses. Some presentations require rest, imaging, medical review or referral to another health professional.

“I don’t automatically want to take training away from someone. I want to understand what is happening, identify what they can currently tolerate and, where appropriate, help them build back toward the demands of their sport.” — Dr Trevor Smyth (Chiropractor)

WHAT YOUR APPOINTMENT MAY INCLUDE

Your initial chiropractic appointment allows time to discuss symptoms, training history, goals and relevant medical information. Following assessment, clinically appropriate options may include hands-on care, movement assessment, exercise rehabilitation, education and training modification. Recommendations depend on your individual presentation and no particular outcome is promised.

WHAT TO BRING

Wear comfortable sporting clothing. Bring relevant reports or imaging, your current training program and recent training or competition videos if available.

ATHLETE AND COMPETITOR BACKGROUND

Sporting experience does not guarantee a clinical result, but it gives Dr Trevor Smyth (Chiropractor) first-hand familiarity with training environments and competition demands. He played basketball from childhood and formerly competed semi-professionally with the Diamond Valley Eagles in Australia’s Big V as a centre and power forward. His basketball achievements include Big V Youth League One MVP in 2007, Power Forward of the Year in 2006 and 2007, Victorian All Schools Boys team selection in 2004 and university Green and Gold team recognition.

His sporting background also includes AFL, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, triathlon, swimming, CrossFit, powerlifting and strongman, with a focus on strength sports since 2019.

VERIFIED STRONGMAN RESULTS

Second place — Static Monsters 2020, Open Weight.
Second place — Sticks and Stones 2022, Open Men.
Second place in Event 3 — Nexus Grand Prix 2026, Open Men. The Nexus result refers to Event 3 rather than the overall competition.

Published strength benchmarks supplied by Dr Trevor Smyth (Chiropractor): 265 kg deadlift, 110 kg log press, 170 kg stone to a 1.2 m platform and 315 kg yoke carry over 30 m.

CURRENT COMPETITION GOAL

Dr Trevor Smyth (Chiropractor) is preparing for Kegs of Fury in October 2026. His longer-term aim is to pursue an opportunity to qualify for Australia’s Strongest Masters in the 105+ kg category, with 2028 as the current target. He is not presently described as qualified for that event.

SPORTS REHABILITATION OR STRENGTH COACHING?

These are separate services. Chiropractic rehabilitation is clinical care that may address symptoms, movement and a graded return to activity. Strength Coaching is a non-clinical service focused on training knowledge, programming and lifting skill. We will explain which pathway is appropriate.

COMMON QUESTIONS

DO I HAVE TO STOP TRAINING?
Not automatically. Your presentation is assessed individually. Where appropriate, Dr Trevor Smyth (Chiropractor) may suggest temporary changes to exercise selection, volume, intensity or range of motion while you rebuild capacity.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL?
A referral is generally not required for a private chiropractic appointment. Some third-party funding arrangements may have their own requirements.

WILL I NEED IMAGING?
Imaging is not routinely required for every presentation. If imaging or medical assessment is clinically indicated, Dr Trevor Smyth (Chiropractor) will discuss the reason and suitable referral pathway.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move. Bringing your training program and relevant lifting videos can help place your concern in context.

HOW LONG IS THE FIRST APPOINTMENT?
The initial chiropractic appointment allows time for a detailed history, assessment, explanation of findings and discussion of suitable options.

CAN I CLAIM PRIVATE HEALTH?
Eligible chiropractic services may be claimable through participating private-health policies. Cover varies, so check directly with your insurer. HICAPS is available for eligible on-the-spot claims.

WHAT IF CHIROPRACTIC IS NOT THE RIGHT PATHWAY?
If another health professional, medical assessment or different service is more appropriate, Dr Trevor Smyth (Chiropractor) will discuss this with you.

Care recommendations and outcomes vary between individuals. No specific result is guaranteed.
